Hey Beus Bunch! How are you? Things are great here. We just had our mission Christmas party. It was a lot of fun. Thank you so much for the packages. I am excited to open them. We had some good food and sang some carols and had a pretty awesome testimony meeting. It was very spiritual. I was asked to speak in sacrament meeting. That went really well. My topic was on the Savior. Lucky for me I have been on a big phase of studying the atonement and His miracles so it was pretty easy and fun to prepare. I just talked about how I came to know Him as my Savior from reading the Book of Mormon. Read Messiah 14 and that is where I shared that chapter with them and bore my testimony. I am really grateful for all that He did for me and for the atonement. It has really blessed me and helped me to be where I am today. Just turning around from where I was three or four years ago and seeing the effects or the atonement is just amazing. Oh and seeing it’s influence in our investigators lives is even more amazing. I just love seeing their whole countenance change because of it. My studies are really helping me to come closer to him. Mission life is the life. Are you guys still reading every morning? I hope so. You know how much it helps. How is the ward? How is the Sunday school dad? Not much else is new. I don't know what time I will call on Christmas. I’ll try for 9 my time so it will be 10 your time. But I will let you know next Monday for sure. We are going to our ward mission leaders and hanging with them all day. It will be fun. They are a great family. Well I hope you have a great holiday. Remember what Christmas is for. Jesus Christ. I love all of you! The church is true the book is blue! Merry Christmas

hey guys! I'm so sorry its taken me so long to email. I I explained it in my letter I sent today. So I did get transferred. I am in Kingston. It is in the Silverdale zone which is where I was trained. So on Monday night we were caught in that big storm that hit you. It was horrible. Kingston is like an hour and a half away from the transfer building in Tacoma and it took 5 hours to drive to at least Bremerton where we stayed the night. I explained it all in the letter. but the roads are still iced over and we can't really drive anywhere because there are a lot of really big hills around here and we just have a Corrolla and can't handle it. So we have been stuck at our apartment for the past two days. But we are at a members house emailing. She took this picture of us. My companion is elder Bartlett. I didn't want the hat but she forced me. Kinda funny. So my watch broke because the little knob on the side snagged on something and came out. But I got it replaced with that warranty. I have enough warm clothes for now. I have a scarf, hat, gloves and that gray sweater form last year. We are going to our ward mission leaders house for Thanksgiving - Brother Wittles. He was just called a few weeks ago and he is great. So i think I'll get Calie's present and you can get Daniels. It sounds like McKell is having fun. How many dates have you been on with Alan. He better watch out! just kidding. I'll write you a letter next week mick. that stinks about the football team though. Oh my address is P.O. box 716 Kingston, Wa 98346. well I need to get going. I hope things are well with you guys. I love you!

Bits and pieces of an email sent on 6/07/10

Well hey i got good news for you. I got transferred finally! I am now in a town called Winlock. Its in the Centralia zone. I love it here already. It is like in the middle of no where. Everything is way spread out and its a ghetto place. Those are good areas because people are humble. My are is huge too. I think it takes like forty minutes to drive from top to bottom. So yeah I am in a car now. My comp is Elder Owens. I came out a transfer after him and he is the district leader. I really like him. We just hit it off and get along great. So my address is 796 Byham Rd. Winlock, Wa 98596. We live in a house by ourselves. It is pretty nice to be on our own. I am way excited to be here. We have a few people we are working with too. Owens said that I must have done something right because I came just at the right time to get stuff done. So it should be a great transfer.

this is part of a letter that Payden had sent on 6/14/10

Hey whats up family? So this has been a pretty good week. A lot has happened. I am still trying to get used to the area and stuff but I am loving it. Our area is huge. It is a lot nicer than dinky Firgrove ha ha. I just talked to one of the sisters that took over it and she said that things are going well there though. Anyways so my companion is Elder Owens. He is from Salt Lake. He lives by the U. he is really a great guy. He is really obedient and loves to work hard. We get along great. We try to serve each other and we try to build comp unity and stuff. We do have at least seven investigators right now. We don't really have any of them on date yet unfortunately. One of them came to church yesterday. His name is Phil and he seems really solid. he is just praying about baptism and we are going to put him on date for the 27th this week. We found two new investigators on Thursday, this lady Cindy and her grand daughter justice. They are going through a really rough time and are really interested. I'll tell you more about them in the letter

Every month we get together with Craig's family for FHE and to celebrate the birthdays for that month. Every one gives $1.00 to the birthday people. We put Payden's in his birthday package and this is a picture of him holding up his cash. Love that smile!!!

MOYHERS DAY MAY 9th 2010

Wow - I looked so forward to mothers day . I could hardly wait for the day to get here. Payden called right when he said he would - at 7:30 P.M. And just for the record - I only got a tiny bit teary eyed at first but I did NOT cry. I did better than I thought I would. Payden sounded so good, so happy, and so positive. He loves his area and he really likes his companion. He said he also likes all of the Elders in his zone. They get together on P-Days and play volley ball.Payden talked about May 6Th. They went to the Seattle temple for the yearly temple trip. Half of the mission went on one day and the other went the next day. He said that they were all in the chapel and the President of the temple and the mission President both spoke to the the missionaries. He said it was so good. The mission President asked all of the missionaries to bring two questions to the temple with them and to fast and pray about them before hand. One question was personal and the other was something to do with their area or about the mission. Payden said that both of his questions were answered that day. He loved that day. He talked to me first, McKell, Tammy, Matt, Calie Jo, Craig and then me again. It was so good to just hear his voice and the enthusiasm about missionary work. He said that time is going by fast for him. He just wants to concentrate on his mission. He sounds the same in some ways and kinda like a different kid in other ways. I was very happy to hear him and to know that he is happy and doing so well. This has been such a blessing in our lives - for all of us. We love and appreciate him. He has a good heart. He said that he and his companion are working hard and that they are diligent and practicing faith. Only 7 more months until Christmas and I can talk to him again!!!!!!!!!!

4/26/10

HEY FAM!!!! guess what! I am staying in Firgrove!! Crazy huh? I am really excited. And Sanders is staying too. We are just starting to get really close so I'm glad he is. Only four missionaries are leaving the zone out of 16 of us. Crazy. I am excited though. I love the missionaries in this zone. We are all super close. So I have something I need to tell you. Now don't get mad though ha ha. Our bikes got stolen on Friday night. We LOCKED them up to go finding and when we came back they were gone. Someone cut the chain. But don't worry we are taken care of. This guy let us borrow some bikes. Then I have insurance on mine so I just need to call CTR bikes and they will send me another one. And this other guy in the ward offered to buy at least one of us a bike. So it will be okay. So the ward is trying to help more to find us a place to live. They are announcing it in church. So on mothers day I guess I will call around 7:30. So be ready! Well I need to get going. Thanks for everything I love you guys tons!!

4/19/10

Dear family,
Hey guys how are you? Things are going good her. Not much has been going on. We are just trying to stay busy. The problem is that we are not getting referrals from members. Do you remember Elder Connolly from the MTC? He is in the zone next to us and we share the same church building so I see him allot. Any way, his ward is so excited about the work they are having baptisms right and left because they get so many referrals. So we have been working hard to find people ourselves. I have retracted our area almost three times now because it is so small. The perimeter of it is 1.3 miles by 2.3 miles. So funny story. Sunday night I got a flat after our last appointment. On the walk home we found a frog and caught it and took it home. We only kept it for 24 hours though. . We let it go the next night. We named it Roadkill. What time do you have church? I need to know so I can call when you are home for mothers day. So on May 5Th we are taking our once a year temple trip . I am pretty excited. The Seattle temple is really pretty. I hear the Vancouver temple is pretty small. Families from our ward have gone. This week we are doing a zone shift. That's when one companion goes to another area in the zone and the other stays. So we just get switched around. I am going to Eaton ville which is at the bottom of our zone. I am pretty excited because I'll be with one of my favorite missionaries. Elder Cook. Well I need to get going. Everything is fine here. I have plenty of money and my gear is holding up. I don't really need anything. Thanks for all you do! I love you guys! Love Elder Beus

3/28/10

hey family! how are you? things are good here. k so my comps name is elder sanders. he is from Springville Utah. he is pretty fun. he is really excited. i'll tell you more in the letter. not much is new here. we met with two of our investigators on Friday, Shawn and Trisha. they are doing good. we talked about getting a testimony and watched the restoration with them. they didn't come to church unfortunately. they seem excited though. the weather was nice here for a while. the past two days have been really wet. yesterday we got caught in a down pour. we got soaked pretty good. the wind blew pretty hard and it just pelted us with rain. we had a dinner appointment so we went home and changed and called them to pick us up haha. we had stake priesthood meeting that night too. it was really good. the stake president talked about how the priesthood works and how we are able to command the elements around us. like if a tree was about to fall on our house we could command it not to. but it has to be done with faith and if we are worthy and if it is in Gods will. it was really cool. that's about all that happened last week though. we are about to go play volleyball with our zone. we do that a lot. it is really fun though. i need to get going though. thank you for everything. the encouragement and support. i really do appreciate it. i love you guys tons!

Funny thing happened …

One night while out tracting we walked up to a door. The screen door was facing the sun so we couldn’t see through the window of the door because of the glare. So I opened the door a little and reached in to knock on the wooden door but I just knocked on air. All of a sudden I heard a lady yell “EXCUSE ME!!” It scared me so bad I jumped off of the doorstep and then started to try and explain who we were. I invited her to come and take a tour of our church building but she said ‘NO!”

Reactivating Adam Halliburton

Two weeks into my first transfer our Bishop came up to us and told us we were going to teach this 35-year-old less active guy in our ward – Adam Halliburton. Bishop Peterson met with him and told him he needed to go back to the temple. So Elder Wadsworth, my trainer, and I began teaching him. We taught him the lessons that we teach investigators and we read scriptures with him. After two weeks of teaching Adam there was a big change in him. He wanted to fix his work schedule so that he could come to church. The last four years he has been coming to sacrament meeting just to take the sacrament and then he would go to work. Adam wanted to help us with splits. He always wanted to come out with us. He would do anything for us. After a few more weeks my trainer was transferred and I ended up staying. It was quite a shock. My new companion, Elder Kennedy, and I continued to teach him for two more transfers. Back in November Adam started to take a temple prep class. That lasted six weeks. Unfortunately, I got transferred on Dec 21st before he got his temple recommend. A week later he gave me a call and told me he was going to the temple on January 9 2010. I called our mission President and got permission to go with him. So on January 9th Elder Kennedy and I were able to go to the Seattle Washington temple with Adam for his first time in 15 years. In a five-month period we were able to get Adam back to church and to the temple. We still keep in touch and he is happier than ever! I just love seeing how the gospel can change peoples lives. This is defiantly the true church. I know it and I know that Christ lives in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Hey guys! So everything is going very well here. Saturday I got to go to the temple with Adam. It was so amazing. The Seattle Temple is beautiful. Its so cool to look back and see how we have touched peoples lives and helped them come back to Church. I still haven't had a baptism, but I have reactivated a few families. Elder Kennedy went too. It was good to see him. He said that Marty got baptized. I don't know if you remember him, but we were teaching him before I left Silverdale. So last week we had some successful tracting. We found four people we could bring on a church tour. Unfortunately, they all bailed. It was pretty upsetting. Some of them we can still try to get them there so that is good. We do have one set up for tonight though. Wish us luck. My bike is doing well. I like it. On Friday it rained on us all day. We were soaked all day. It was kinda miserable. But my feet were dry! When we went in homes and sat on couches we got them pretty wet, I felt bad ha ha. The past two days have been good though. It was warm enough that I didn't need a jacket, but I wore it anyway to keep my shirt clean. But today is pretty wet. I'll try to get some pictures to you today. Oh, you know what? I could use Brother Morton's computer to email some to you. So that was pretty cool he talked to you mom. I was jealous though. I told him it wasn't fair. But it is good he can call you if I need something. Well, I need to get going. Thanks for everything. You guys are the Best! I love you tons!

Payden called home on Christmas day at about 10:45 A.M. He talked to us for about an hour and 15 min. Calie Jo and Matt come over Christmas morning for breakfast and then we patiently waited for Payden to call. Tammy came over too - she got here about 9:45. Payden said he would call between 9:30 and 10:00. The phone rang and Calie Jo answered it. Then McKell had a very short turn and then Matt and then Craig and then Tammy and finally it was my turn! I think we all asked the same questions. He had been transferred on the 21st and is new to the area, companion, ward etc. If any one can handle that - it is Payden because he is so easy going. We asked about the area, his new companion and new place. He is living with a guy in the ward in a trailer. Payden said he seemed nice but had only spoke to him twice so far. His new comp is from Florida. They were in the MTC at the same time and knew each other from there. Payden said that the Bishop is very involved in missionary work and he is excited to have them both there because they are hard workers. Payden said they are going to turn this place around. We all took one more turn talking to him again. He said " I love it here mom- I love being a missionary and I love it here. Dont worry about me mom." It was so great to hear his voice and we could just hear the excitement in his voice and he seemed so happy! We miss him so much but at the same time I am so glad that he wanted to serve our Heavenly Father. He is growing and learning and changing. I can't wait til Mother's Day!!!!!!
