Funny thing happened …

One night while out tracting we walked up to a door. The screen door was facing the sun so we couldn’t see through the window of the door because of the glare. So I opened the door a little and reached in to knock on the wooden door but I just knocked on air. All of a sudden I heard a lady yell “EXCUSE ME!!” It scared me so bad I jumped off of the doorstep and then started to try and explain who we were. I invited her to come and take a tour of our church building but she said ‘NO!”

Reactivating Adam Halliburton

Two weeks into my first transfer our Bishop came up to us and told us we were going to teach this 35-year-old less active guy in our ward – Adam Halliburton. Bishop Peterson met with him and told him he needed to go back to the temple. So Elder Wadsworth, my trainer, and I began teaching him. We taught him the lessons that we teach investigators and we read scriptures with him. After two weeks of teaching Adam there was a big change in him. He wanted to fix his work schedule so that he could come to church. The last four years he has been coming to sacrament meeting just to take the sacrament and then he would go to work. Adam wanted to help us with splits. He always wanted to come out with us. He would do anything for us. After a few more weeks my trainer was transferred and I ended up staying. It was quite a shock. My new companion, Elder Kennedy, and I continued to teach him for two more transfers. Back in November Adam started to take a temple prep class. That lasted six weeks. Unfortunately, I got transferred on Dec 21st before he got his temple recommend. A week later he gave me a call and told me he was going to the temple on January 9 2010. I called our mission President and got permission to go with him. So on January 9th Elder Kennedy and I were able to go to the Seattle Washington temple with Adam for his first time in 15 years. In a five-month period we were able to get Adam back to church and to the temple. We still keep in touch and he is happier than ever! I just love seeing how the gospel can change peoples lives. This is defiantly the true church. I know it and I know that Christ lives in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
